If an off road experience excites you, then Cachicata Trek to Machu Picchu is for you. Although, not so well known as Salkantay Trek or Lares Trek, it offers a unique experience. You will also get an in-depth understanding of Incan civilisation.
The trek takes you through one of the Inca ruins that is missed by many travellers, Inca Quarry. It was evident that Incas were planning to develop Ollantaytambo. This was during the reign of Pachacuti. It was in Cachicata, they had the biggest quarry. Infact, even today you will see some fine pink cut marble stones namely “tired stones” or “cut stones” scattered around.
On this trail, you will be walking along the same path through which the Incas transported these stones.
Cachicata Trek to Machu Picchu passes through many lesser known archaeological complexes. On this four days trek you will discover places like Ñaupa. It is an ancient Incan town. Furthermore, the trek passes through Intipuku or the sun gate. The route has constantly changing landscapes which makes it even more appealing.
