  Cultural Facts

The 7-day, 6-night Enchanting Peru package will connect you with various facets of Peruvian culture and history across different regions:

  • Lima: Arrival and departure point, capital of Peru and former “City of Kings” of the Viceroyalty, now a vibrant metropolis.
  • Paracas and Ballestas Islands: The Paracas National Reserve protects an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem and remnants of the Paracas culture (700 BC – 200 AD), famous for its textiles. The Ballestas Islands are a sanctuary for guano birds (guanay, booby) whose exploitation was key to the Peruvian economy in the 19th century, as well as hosting sea lions and Humboldt penguins. The enigmatic “Candelabro” is a pre-Inca geoglyph of still-debated origin.
  • Huacachina: A natural oasis amidst the coastal desert of Ica, surrounded by high dunes. It is a place associated with local legends and today a center for adventure sports like sandboarding and dune buggy rides.
  • Wineries (Ica and Chincha): The Ica region is the birthplace of Pisco, the Peruvian grape brandy with Denomination of Origin. Visiting wineries allows learning about the traditional production process and the history of viticulture in Peru, dating back to colonial times. Chincha adds the Afro-Peruvian component, with typical music and dances.
  • Cusco (Qoricancha, Sacsayhuamán, etc.): Ancient capital of the Inca Empire (Tahuantinsuyo). The visited sites (Qoricancha – Temple of the Sun, Sacsayhuamán – ceremonial fortress, Qenqo – huaca, Pukapukara – tambo, Tambomachay – water worship) represent the political, religious, and military heart of the empire.
  • Super Sacred Valley (Chincheros, Moray, Maras, Ollantaytambo, Pisac): Agricultural and spiritual axis of the Incas. Chincheros stands out for its textiles and syncretism; Moray for its possible function as an agricultural laboratory; Maras for its ancestral salt pans; Ollantaytambo as a living Inca town and fortress; and Pisac for its archaeological complex and traditional market.
  • Machu Picchu: World icon of Inca architecture and engineering, sacred citadel built by Pachacutec in the 15th century, abandoned and rediscovered, now a World Heritage Site.
  • Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca): Geological phenomenon of great visual impact due to mineral sedimentation and oxidation, located near Apu Ausangate, a fundamental sacred mountain in the Andean cosmovision.
