Three days Sandoval Lake Tour in Tambopata National Reserve offers a memorable experience of a lifetime. With our local guide you will be spotting many native birds and animals. 

All our Amazon experts who guide on tours are locals from the region. They have an extensive knowledge of plants, animals and birds and are fluent in English.

Day 1Arrival - Siringuero Camp - Caiman Safari

Our representative will meet you at Puerto Maldonado and will transfer you to our local office. Here, you can sort out your bags and just carry what you would be needing for the following three days. You can leave your bag at our office which will be safely stored.
We will then drive you to the boat pier where you will be boarding the boat to “Puerto de Capitanía”. Its a 40 minutes boat ride along Made de Dios river to “Puerto de Capitanía. Here you will be spending the night in Corto Maltes Amazon Lodge. The hotel staff will welcome you with some drinks and tropical fruits.
Your guide will later meet you and brief you on the day’s Sandoval Lake Tour. This will be followed by lunch.

Visit to Syringuero camp:
At 0330 PM you will be starting you first Amazon Experience. Our local expert will guide you and will show you around. Here you will get to see and know about many plants those are typical to the region. You will see some medicinal plants and Brazil nut plantation.
Later you will be visiting Shiringuero camp. Shiringuero camp is one of the main sources economy to Made De Dios region. Here you will see the rubber collection process (better known as latex) and see how it is used for many products.
The time for this hike is 2 hours.

Free Time:
Once in the Lodge you can simply relax in the pool or in hammocks on the terrace of your private bungalow. You can also savour some exotic cocktail in the bar or enjoy a relaxing massage. Alternatively, you van visit the in-house store where they sell handmade souvenir of the Rainforest or head to the riverbank to see the sunset.

Cayman Safari:
7:00 p.m. Before dinner, we will go on a night trip by boat to spot alligators and, with a bit of luck, other animals that populate the riverbank at night.
8:00 pm dinner in our dining room by the river.

Day 2Sandoval Lake- Monkey Island

Wake up at 5:30 am for coffee or tea before leaving to Sandoval Lake. Your guide will give you a breakfast in bags and a snack for the excursion.

Sandoval Lake:
After almost 20 minutes boat ride on the Madre de Dios river, we will reach the Sandoval Lake boat pier. Here you will have a walking tour. The three hours walk will be though lush wild vegetation. We will then enter the Tambopata National Reserved Zone. Here you will be seeing some giant trees, snakes and monkeys. This zone is home to different varieties of monkeys squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys) and several birds ( in particular the Hoatzin, also known as the stinky bird, kingfisher and snakebirds).
Back in Sandoval lake, we will be embarking on small row boats and will sail around looking for giant otters. On this tour, you will also get to see some mammals, reptiles and birds in their natural habitat. The guide will dock the boat for sometime where you can have your breakfast amidst the nature. We will then return to the dock.

Optional Visit to Monkey Island:
Visiting Monkey Island depends entirely on the season. At times due to intense flooding it becomes impossible to disembark from the boat. There are also times in the year for mating and reproduction, and it is important to leave wild monkeys alone, without human interruption. Animals are accustomed to visitors and can get very close. Therefore, it is very important to always follow the instructions of your guide.

1:30 p.m. Return to the lodge for lunch.

Visit the observation tower and chestnut harvesting field:
At around 0330PM we will be visiting one of the two observation towers of Corto Maltes Amazonia. Corto Maltes Amazonia stands 42 meters. The tower is designed for birdwatching and to spot other animals from a height .
In addition to this you will also get to see the sunset.
Free time:
Then, you will have free time to enjoy the pool or a massage, cool off at the bar or visit our souvenir shop.

Day 3Tambopata

Parrots Clay Lick:
At 0530 in the morning we will serve you coffee or tea. We will then go to see the clay lick. Its roughly a 20 minutes walk from the lodge. Here you will get to see 3 to 5 different types of parrots.
Parrots fly in here to ingest a certain type of clay. This kind is only found in certain parts of the Amazon Jungle. Clay lick parrots:
Wake up at 5:30 am for a coffee or tea before heading out for a 20 minute walk to the clay lake, where you will have the possibility to observe 3 to 5 types of parrots.
Parrots come to clay soil to ingest a particular type of clay, which is only found in certain areas of this region. Clay is vital for the metabolic regulation of birds and is therefore the venue for a truly delightful and exciting colourful event.

8:00 am: Breakfast and free time
After breakfast we will board the boat for our ride back to Puerto Maldonado.
Our representative will meet you at the boat pier and will transfer you to our local office. Later, we will be visiting the local market. Here you will be able to witness the daily life of locals and see different types of fruits and vegetables.
We will then drop you off at the airport for you flight out of Puerto Maldonado.
