Tambopata Jungle Tour is an all inclusive four days tour from Puerto Maldonado. On this tour you will be spotting many animals and birds those are typical to the region. You will also be familiarised to different plants and trees. Most of these plants are used by locals here for medicinal purposes.
We will also be visiting a farm where they grow tropical fruits. Also Tambopata Jungle Tour will give you a first hand introduction to Machuguenga Native Group, one of the many ethnic groups in the Peruvian Amazon. Here you will be able to get a closer look at their life. They will show you how they take advantage of natural products to make tools, their homes, dresses and ornaments, all of these play an important for their daily life.
Puerto Maldonado Airport Transfer
Depending on flight time
Our representative will be meeting you at the airport upon arrival and will be transferring you to our local office in Puerto Maldonado. You can sort out your bags so you can carry only what you would be needing during the tour. We have luggage storage facility at our office and you can securely leave your bags there.
We will then drive to Puerto de Capitanía boat pier where you will be boarding the boat for a 40 minutes ride to Corto Maltes Amazon lodge on Made de Dios river.
Upon docking in on the shores of Corto Maltes Amazon lodge, the staff will be welcoming you with a natural fruit soda which is exclusive here. Your guide will then brief you about the itinerary.
Lunch will be served here.
At 0330 PM, our guide will give you a tour. On this tour you will see he tropical trees, medicinal plants and other exuberant nature.
You will then be visiting Shiringuero camp, one of the most important economic activities in the Madre de Dios region. Here you will be visiting the camp where they extract rubber (latex).
After the tour, you will be back in the lodge. You can relax in the pool or in the hammock by sipping in an exotic cocktail from the bar. You can also have a massage or see the sunset in the pier.
At around 0700 PM, we will do a little night safari to try and spot some alligators in their natural habitat.
You will woken up at 0530 in the morning for a quick coffee or tea before we would set out to explore Lake Sandoval. The guide will be carrying your packed breakfast and snacks.
After sailing on Madre De Dios river we will reach Lake Sandoval. Here we will have a walking tour. During the three kilometres walk through the wild vegetation, we will be entering Tambopata National Reserve Zone. Here you will be able to see different species of snakes, monkeys and birds. Most of these species are typical to the region.
Back on the shores of Lake Sandoval, you will be boarding a small row boat and will sail out to spot giant otters.
We will also see some reptiles and mammals on this tour.
Our guide will then find a suitable place to dock the boat so that you can have your breakfast amidst the jungle.
Monkey Island (Optional):
Visiting Monkey Island depends entirely on the season. During monsoon, it gets flooded here which makes it impossible to disembark and walk on the island.
Also, during the mating season the local authorities want these animals to be left alone with no human interruptions.
1:30 p.m. Return to the lodge for lunch.
Visit the observation tower and chestnut harvest field:
At 0330 PM, we will be visiting one of the two observation towers of Corto Maltes Amazonia, with a height of 20 and 42 meters. These towers are designed to spot birds and animals that live high in the canopy.
In addition, you will also get to see the sunset from here.
We will also be visiting a Brazil nut farm (also known as chestnut, locally) It is one of the most important economic activities in Madre de Dios region.
We will then return to the lodge for dinner at 0800 PM.
Breakfast will be served at 0800 in the morning.
At 0900 in the morning, we will be visiting a farm. The farm is known for producing different tropical fruits. You will get to taste different tropical fruits here.
The farm is run by a local family who preserve the farm from chemicals. They sell these fruits in the main market of Puerto Maldonado.
After the tour, we will visit Machiguenga native family.
Machuguenga Natives are one of the many ethnic groups in the Peruvian Amazon. They will introduce you to their culture, customs and language. They will teach us how they take advantage of natural products to make tools, their homes, dresses and ornaments, all of these play an important role in their daily life.
At 0100 PM we will have lunch amidst the jungle.
At 0200 PM we will be returning to the lodge. You will then have the rest of the evening to yourself to relax and unwind.
Dinner will be served at 0800 PM.
Parrots Clay Lick:
At 0530 in the morning we will serve you coffee or tea. We will then go to see the clay lick. Its roughly a 20 minutes walk from the lodge. Here you will get to see 3 to 5 different types of parrots.
Parrots fly in here to ingest a certain type of clay. This kind is only found in certain parts of the Amazon Jungle. Clay lick parrots:
Wake up at 5:30 am for a coffee or tea before heading out for a 20 minute walk to the clay lake, where you will have the possibility to observe 3 to 5 types of parrots.
Parrots come to clay soil to ingest a particular type of clay, which is only found in certain areas of this region. Clay is vital for the metabolic regulation of birds and is therefore the venue for a truly delightful and exciting colourful event.
8:00 am: Breakfast and free time
After breakfast we will board the boat for our ride back to Puerto Maldonado.
Our representative will meet you at the boat pier and will transfer you to our local office. Later, we will be visiting the local market. Here you will be able to witness the daily life of locals and see different types of fruits and vegetables.
We will then drop you off at the airport for you flight out of Puerto Maldonado.
