Tour Details

Our Waqrapukara full day tour will take you to one of the Inca temples located in the Andes mountain range in Cusco. This fortress is built on top of one of the steepest mountains. This trekking experience will also immerse you in an area where travelers do not usually go, taking you on an experience outside the traditional treks in Cusco.

Waqrapukara is a new tourist attraction whose mysteries have not yet been deciphered and that allows a magnificent view of the night sky, populated by constellations, planets and stars of enormous value in the Inca worldview, fortress, sanctuary, astronomical observatory are the interpretations of this enigmatic monument of classical Inca architecture that is located at 4,300 m.a.s.l. in the abysses of the Apurímac river canyon, south of the city in Cusco.

Waqrapukara (from Quechua, waqra, ‘horn’ and pukara, ‘fortress’; ‘horn-shaped fortress’) or Huacrapucará is an Inca archaeological complex located in the peasant community of Huayqui, annex of Percca in the district of Acos, located in the province of Acomayo in the department of Cuzco. It is located near the Apurimac River at 4,300 meters above sea level. It was built by the Canchis and later conquered by the Incas. It was declared in July 2017 as Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture. The building would be an Inca sanctuary. The building is located on platforms, squares and a stone forest.

Very early, around 04:40 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to head south east of the city to the town of Acomayo where we will stop for a succulent local breakfast.

Immediately after we will continue our journey to the point where we will begin to walk approximately 3 hours at an altitude of 12,000 feet passing through the Cusco prairies to our final destination: the ancient Inca fortress of Waqrapukara, approximately 11:00 hours.

After a short break we will have enough time to visit and learn more about this mystical and religious archaeological site.

Then we will return by the same road until we reach our transport and at an average of 3:30 p.m., we will finally be returning to Cusco arriving around 7:00 p.m. Travelers who make the trip to Waqrapukara must be in good physical condition and with good acclimatization to the altitude, we suggest doing this trek after your tours to Machupicchu.
